Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep

Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep are a subspecies of the bighorns that have historically roamed the Rocky Mountains from Canada down to the New Mexico southern rockies.
The sheep were extirpated in New Mexico around the turn of the 20th century.
In the 1990s bighorns were officially endangered in the New Mexico area.
There are now 15 herds spread across the Land of Enchantment.
I took these photos of a herd off highway 38 New Mexico close to the ranger station.
It was late March 2020.
